Tips On How You Can Show Steers

By Agnes Franco

It is hard work when you have to keep up with training, caring and grooming your Texas show steers. But when it comes to showing them, it is quite simple if you know the proper steps. Even if the process is simple, you need to keep on practicing with your pet so that you have a better preparation against any competitions.

When you attend the performance, make sure you appear presentable. Ensure that you have the appropriate clothes on and that you must also appear like a professional. You are also recommended to wear leather boots which will protect your feet. Be polite and kind to the people in the ring. When they are giving you instructions, you should listen carefully.

Guide your animal towards the ring. Hold the stick straight-up with your left hand. The halter lead should be on your right hand. Give the animal some slacks so that he will not feel too crowded and he may not also lose control.

Lead the creature around the ring in a clockwise manner. Although you have to wait if the director already instructs you to do the act. Be sure to keep distance with your animal and the one in front of you for about three feet.

Whenever you need to stop, set up your creature. This is the positioning of its feet correctly. Transfer your show stick onto your right hand and utilize in when you are positioning its feet fairly beneath him.

Begin with its leg in the back right and then the left one. Then you have to proceed with the right one in front and lastly the left front leg. You have to remember to place its back legs a bit wider compared to the front so that the judges can see his advantage.

To give the judge a better view, he should be in the middle of both you and the judge. To make sure that he does not get pissed off during the examination, rub his belly. During the examination of the head, stay on the west side and transfer your stick to the left as well. This always gives the steward a good view at the texas show steers.
