Brilliant Features Of Cat Poles

By Robert Baker

Cats have a natural instinct towards climbing whether it is furniture, tree or even on you. This nature of cats of climbing on things led to the development of cat poles. This allows your kitty to satisfy her desires in a way, which is safe both for them as well as for the furniture.

They come in a variety of styles and sizes. Many versions include multiple poles that have proven to be more appealing to cats. Kitties can choose the ones they like to climb, or use them for scratching or just lay in between and relax. However, one should understand the pet and choose the most suitable one accordingly.

The vertical pole is the commonly used model out of all. The basic design is very simple with a solid base and a cylindrical rod. The rods are usually covered with some soft fabric, which provides the kitty a place to sharpen its claws. Mostly, the scratching pad gets support from the rod. This makes it easier for the cats to climb without much effort.

Many posts are designed at an inclined angle. This is done for the older animals as they cannot climb without support. The inclined plane reduces the effort in scratching. There is no provision of perch on top. You can make it more appealing by hanging some toy on it.

The horizontal ones are more interesting as they provide a stable and low level post. These occupy very little space and are perfect for apartments or smaller dwellings. Some of these posts are made up of wood like cedar, which is very durable and stands repeated scratching and gives a sturdy base to rest upon.

Some advantages of owning cat poles include the safety of your furniture. By providing the pets their own place to scratch, whether it is a simple or a large pole, one can stop them from spoiling the furniture. The most preferred material is sisal rope for these posts.
