Parrot Breeders

By Casey Kukiel

Parrot breeders play extremely important rolls in the lives of the parrots that they raise. They adopt the role of being the parrot's sergeant parents. The way a parrot is raised and how it is handled when it is young directly affect its personality when the parrot is an adult. When looking for a parrot breeder, make sure that you find someone who has a very good reputation. Rescue groups and pet store may be a good place to buy parrots but, when you purchase one from a breeder you are able to receive the bird history and the understanding the way it was raised.

The health and longevity of a parrot is mostly determined by the way it was raised from birth. It needs a healthy supply of food, and before they are sold they need to be weened. Fresh produce is a must for all younger parrots. This will ensure a healthy, and happy parrot.

While most pet owners prefer their bird's wings to be clipped, the bird does need to know how to fly. As a baby, they should be allowed to learn the mechanics of flight and they should know how to land. This will educate them on how to maneuver themselves even on the ground. Note that your parrot's personality will hinge heavily on how the breeder treated them, and most people like a social bird. Did your breeder socialize the baby bird? If so, then how?

Most parrot breeders take their work very seriously. They are kind, they love their birds, and they know how to raise them. This describes the majority of breeders though, not the ones that are just in it for the money. Make sure that you can tell the difference, as it can spell the demise or success of your parrot keeping adventure. If you have questions, ask them, make sure the parrots are healthy and happy. Remember that parrots live for a long time, and it is a long term investment on your part!

Some parrot breeders are more knowledgeable then pet store owners and continue to breed parrots for the love of the breed. If you choose to buy a parrot through a breeder you will have a better chance of purchasing a well adjusted, happy, and more importantly healthy bird that will last a lifetime.
