Factors To Consider In Bulldog Puppy Training

By Paddy Copperfield

The very first few months of a puppy's life has a great influence on how it will be in the future. Nonetheless, bulldog puppy training is an ongoing process that stretches out to its entire lifetime. The important fact is that it is at a bulldog's tender age that it is able to absorb and grasp certain behaviors, both good and bad. In either event, it is up to the owner to decide which kind of behavior the bulldog will adopt.

Using positive reinforcement as a method of instilling certain traits or encouraging positive behavior in a dog has proven to be very effective. How this works is very easy. The owner simply rewards the dog each and every time something positive is done and condemns bad behavior. The dog will always look up to being rewarded.

As for positive reinforcement, dogs will best work with food as a reward. The secret lies in their stomach. A bulldog will most certainly remember what to do in order to get some little snack. Other means of reinforcement may be used but the bottom line is, that is how they are naturally.

If one is not very careful, a bulldog may end up being very arrogant and dominating. In training a bulldog, the owner should be consistent and understanding. Bulldog are very stubborn therefore once a decision is made the best rule would be to stick with it until the dogs gets used to the idea and eventually it will understand who is calling the shots.

This also extends to crate training. The bulldog may be very unwilling to stay in the crate but as time goes by it will get used to the place. It is recommended to have a crate that is meshed so that the dog can see outside and feel less confined. Once the dog gets used to staying in the crate there are lower chances of trouble as bulldogs are naturally a very playful breed.

Provided that one wants to maintain a clean house yet own a bulldog puppy, potty training is very important. Adopting a schedule has been proven to be very effective. What to keep in mind is that a good schedule should involve taking the dog out in the morning, before the dog goes to sleep, after a meal and occasionally during the day.

As a final point, the bulldog is a very intelligent animal. Most people are of the contrary opinion but the secret lies in getting the dog to learn as well as adopt certain behaviors early in its life. In short, it is up to the owner to decide how their dog will behave.
