Why Bulldog Training Is Important

By Wainwright Elizabeth

Bulldogs are one of the most preferred pets in the world. Most people like bulldogs because of their great personalities. However, when it comes to bulldog training a person who is not psychologically prepared may experience problems or get frustrated.

Bulldogs are stubborn. This is a fact that an owner should accept and come in terms with. It is very hard to control and order it around due to its nature. That is why the owner should be patient and handle the dog in a way that will make it easier for the bulldog to be trained. If this is done the whole process of training the dog will be simpler.

Training should involve the use of hand signals and the voice. If training is properly done the dog will be able to obey commands without hesitation. Most people first train the dog basic commands such as sit and stay before moving on to more advanced training.

Just like training any other dog using motivators on a bulldog works. A motivator can be a treat that the dog can be given when it does something good. Rewarding the dog will strengthen its obedience and this will make the bulldog to readily obey the owner each time a command is given.

Most people recommend the use of a clicker to teach a bulldog to follow directions better and to understand things. The clicker works almost the same way as a motivator but it is clicked before the dog is given a treat. After sometime the bulldog will associate the sound with a reward.

It is important to relate a specific action with a hand signal and word. This will lower the training period. The bulldog will be able to relate a word or hand signal with an action, and will be able to learn a lot in a short period. Consistency is extremely important. The signals and words should not be mixed up and used on other commands.

At a certain age bulldogs may temporarily forget their training. At this time the dog owner should still be consistent because after sometime they will start obeying the commands again. The bulldog is intelligent and sensitive. It remembers what it has been taught and masters commands effectively but a person should be patient during training. Consistency and persistence is effective in training the dogs. Bulldog training should be done on a daily basis but the sessions should be short, usually less than 45 minutes.
